I’ve finally gotten around to sorting out my vacation pictures. Of all the pictures I took, and I took a lot, this picture of Ketchikan encapsulates Alaska to me. If I can I will get some of the better pictures up on Flickr.

Picture of Red TulipsFor the past few months an awful lot of my time and energy has been focused on my Podcast, getting it up and running then dealing with producing a weekly episode. Of course, as several of you have stated, this has effected the blog; and not in a positive way. The blog was relegated to a rear burner out of necessity, and not because I’ve lost interest in it, or because it’s dyeing a slow death. Producing a podcast has turned out to be a time and energy sucking black-hole. I have been consumed with trying to improve each episode with better sound quality, and compelling content, but it seems that it’s all for naught. I am repeatedly challenged with software, hardware, and human-ware problems that frustrate and disappoint me at every turn. Each episode has taken me on an emotional roller-coaster ride that leaves me swearing that “that’s it, I won’t go through this again; it’s over,” but still I masochistically trudge on, digging that hole a little deeper. On an average it takes me five hours to produce a thirty minute weekly show. If the quality/value of the podcast warranted that kind of time commitment I wouldn’t have a problem with it, but clearly it doesn’t; I know, because I’ve heard them. After fourteen episodes the number of subscribers remains embarrassingly low; at times in the single digits. Surprisingly though, this doesn’t really bother me. What does bother me though is producing something that I don’t like; again and again, and posting it only out of frustration and anger. I have given serious thought to the notion of quitting, of walking away, unplugging the microphone then dealing with the knowledge that it beat me. I haven’t totally discounted this idea, but I don’t think its time has come. I’m also aware that podcasting may be something that I just suck at. That may very well be, but I’m not ready to admit to that…not yet.So, where am I? That’s a good question. One that I don’t have a clear answer to. I’m not ready to give-up podcasting, and I don’t want to continue to neglect the blog as I have. I’m also acutely aware that I sure-as-hell can’t continue on as I have been. Something has to change. To that end I’m going to make an honest effort to spend more time on the blog. In order to do that I’m going to change the podcast from a weekly show to a semi-weekly show. In real terms this mean that there may be seven, eight, ten, or G-d forbid, fourteen days between episodes. With a more flexible schedule I’m hopeful that I can improve the content of the podcast, and find solutions to some of the reoccurring problems that plague me. I’m hopeful that I can carry-out these changes and that you will see an improvement in the blog and the podcast. Thanks for sticking around.

If this is Wednesday, then this must be Ketchikan. We pulled into the last port of call this morning, Ketchikan, Alaska, as my vacation quickly winds down. There has been so much that I’ve seen and done in this beautiful state, that it will require some time for me to digest it all. I missed putting out a podcast this week because there just hasn’t been enough time for me to do one. I will have a lot to talk about when I get back to Baltimore early Saturday morning. Until that time, here are a few more pictures of Alaska.
