Since I’ve gotten my big HDTV I’ve found myself watching a lot more television than I use to. Before my switch to HD I would watch about 3 or 4 hours of programs a week, but now that the picture is gigantic, bright, colorful, and mesmerizing I’m clocking in a good 8 to 10 hours a week; sometimes more. I’ve also become somewhat of a HD snob. I hate watching anything that isn’t in HD, or watching any screen that doesn’t measure up to a full 46”. I’m spoiled.
Looking back I can’t understand why I waited so long before upgrading to HD. It must have been a case of pure ignorance. But now that I’ve seen the light, sort of speaking, there’s no going back. The only disadvantage to programs broadcast in HD is that they eat-up a lot of space on my TIVO. They take about 3 times the space that an analog program takes so it won’t be long before I have to upgrade the TIVO’s hard drive to something bigger. Through all of this I’ve come to one conclusion, HD is beautiful, but it isn’t healthy for you. All that sitting gives you big hips and a fat ass.

So, who will it be, Hillary Clinton, or Barack Obama? The primary election being held today in the Keystone state, Pennsylvania, just may give us the answer. Totally disregarding the polls, because they’re worthless and as we’ve recently seen the American news media can’t be trusted, I’m going to predict that Hillary will take it. Not by much however, but enough that she will have the momemtem going into the convention. Of course I’m still holding out for a Dream Ticket. Yeah, yeah, I know, they both said no, but I still think it might happen. Call me naive, or stupid, but I think a ticket of Clinton/Obama would be able to sweep the election. Easily decimating McCain. Whatever the outcome of the Pennsylvania primary the Democratic Party has to get their act together and get behind whomever becomes their candidate. Without the support of every Democrat we may very well see another Republican sitting in the Oval Office. G-d Forbid.

Passover begins tomorrow (Saturday) night. As usual I’m not ready. Passover is one of the most labor intensive holidays that crowds the Jewish calendar. The required house cleaning alone is enough to break even the most devout. This year for the first seder I’ll be with some friends that I haven’t seen for some time, so I’m looking forward to that. I want to catch up on what’s been happening with them. Rumor has it that they are making aliyah (moving to Israel) so I want to hear all about that. It should be an interesting night. The second night seder I’ve decided that I’m going to skip. There is only so much matzah a person can eat and I know I’ll have reached my limit mid-meal of the first seder. On the other hand, I can never get my fill of macaroons. I look forward to them all year long.

What does the word “Home” mean to you? Does it conjure up images of a Norman Rockwell painting, replete with a big house and a white picket fence? Or does the word evoke feelings of family and friends, the people in your life? For me the concept of home is a place I’m always trying to get to. For as long as I can remember I’ve been looking for that magical place where I felt safe and unfettered, free to express myself without fear of rejection. A place where I know I belong. I know that a home is far more than just a physical place, but the importance of where you call home can’t be underestimated. Emotional, social, and artistic stability and growth can be dependent upon a physical location. People thrive in environments that suit their being. A New Yorker might have difficulties living in Wyoming, as would someone from Arizona finding themselves transplanted to Maine. I believe that there has to be a place on earth where everyone can call home. For me that place is Northern New Mexico. When I moved there in August of 1980 I knew immediately that New Mexico was where I belonged, and when I had to move east for graduate school in 1993 I knew that I would be back. New Mexico is my home.
The time that I’ve been away from New Mexico I’ve always kept the emotional ties to the land. Returning to the mountains and the beautiful desert plateaus has always been my goal. A goal that I get closer to each year. Soon I’ll be able to return home, home to where my heart is.

As Reality Television goes, the BRAVO network has put out some of the most gay positive programs seen on TV. Of course there is the popular Project Runway, and Top Chef, both of which have had tons of gay characters, and I do like them, but for pure hot gay content you can’t beat BRAVO’s Make Me a Supermodel. This is all due to the hot “bromance” between gay contestant Ronnie Kroell and straight Prison Guard Ben DiChiara. The chemistry between them was obvious and BRAVO played it to the hilt. Each week’s show I kept hoping that Ben would cross that line and make Ronnie a happy man. Of course he didn’t and we all knew that he wouldn’t, but that didn’t stop us from fantasizing about it. Well, Make Me a Supermodel is over and Ronnie and Ben didn’t win, but that’s okay because they made it to the end and that’s good enough for me. Unrequited love, nothing purer.
