The French Open Tennis Tournament begins today at Roland Garros just outside of Paris. The three time winner of the men’s title, Rafael Nadal is looking to continue his winning streak, and retain his title as the “Clay Court King.” Picture of NadalThis year’s draw of matches plays well to the top seeded players like Nadal because most of the difficult players don’t meet until later into the tournament. The only real threat to Nadal’s fourth win at Roland Garros is Serbian Novak Djokovic. His clay court game is big and fast.
Andy Roddick, the highest ranked American, withdrew from the tournament due to a right shoulder injury. According to Andy’s brother John, Andy should be fit enough for the grass court season that begins with the tourament at Queen’s Club, a key warmup for Wimbledon.Picture of Andy Roddick
I’m looking forward to some excellent tennis durning the French Open, but I will miss not seeing Andy sliding around the clay court. I hope he’s feeling better so he can play Wimbledon. I think his game is better suited for grass than it is for clay and if he keeps fit he has a very good chance of winning at Wimbledon. it’s only a few weeks until Wimbledon anyway. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed for him. ESPN-2 will have over 75 hours of live and taped coverage of the French Open tournament. I won’t be able to catch it all, but thank G-d for TIVO, what would I do with out it?

picture of Bush playing GolfHe’s at it again. Our ever so sensitive and thoughtful President has revealed that in August 2003, out of reverence for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, he stopped playing golf. Yes, you read that right, he stopped playing golf because, as he put it, “I think playing golf during a war just sends the wrong signal.” Unbelievable! If he really wanted to show respect for the troops he should have stopped playing U. S. President. He plays that just as poorly as he does golf. I’m sure that the parents, wives, husbands, and friends of the soldiers who have been killed would prefer that he gave up being President and continued playing golf. At least on the golf course there would have been fewer deaths.
I seriously doubt that his giving up golf had little, if anything, to do with respecting our troops. In fact, the record shows that he continued to play golf through October, 2003. I suspect that it was his inability to play golf that made him give it up. Plus, by not playing golf it would give him more time to ride his mountain bike. What a jock. This guy is an embarrassment and there can be no justification or rationalization for his abysmal performance as President.

Three things that I learned today.

1. Just because the state issued you a drivers license it doesn’t mean that you know how to drive. Making a U-turn from the far right lane, cutting across 3 lanes of traffic, may get you killed.
2. No matter how clearly you write your name on your lunch bag once you put it in a communal refrigerator there’s no guarantee that it will be there when lunch time comes around. To some people food is food no matter whose it is.
3. And the most important thing I learned today is that when your lunch bag goes MIA and someone invites you to join them for lunch, before you say “yes,” do a background check on their driving history. If you don’t then you have no one to blame but yourself when you see your life flash before your eyes as you careen across 3 lanes of traffic to get to the restaurant across the street.

I’m happy to be alive!

Good News! The American public has finally come to it’s senses. According to a news story on the CNN website today our fearless leader’s disapproval rating is now equal to his IQ.

A CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey released Thursday indicates that 71 percent of the American public disapprove of how Bush is handling his job as president. “No president has ever had a higher disapproval rating in any CNN or Gallup Poll; in fact, this is the first time that any president’s disapproval rating has cracked the 70 percent mark,” said Keating Holland, CNN’s polling director.

What really amazes me is that even with all the evidence and proof of just how horrible a President this man is, people still supported him. To those who supported, and still support Bush, I have one thing to say; the deaths of all of our soldiers in Iraq is on your head. However you justify your support of Bush it can never eradicate your quilt.
