Here it is the end of August. How did it get here so fast? The last I remember it was March, cold and rainy, trying it’s best to become spring. Now we’re headed into the dog days of summer, hot, humid, and insufferable. Before long it will be fall, my favorite time of the year, by the way, and life will slow down to a cool and comfortable pace.
This summer I had three vacations planned, but work raised it’s ugly head and I had to scrap all three of them. It’s starting to effect me. I’m feeling burnt out and if I don’t take some time off soon I won’t be responsible for my actions–nothing postal, you can calm down. In past years taking a day of here and there was enough to recharge my batteries, but that just doesn’t do it any more. I would love to get a way for a couple of weeks to Puerto Vallarta, or someplace where there is no cell reception, if that’s even possible these days.
I have one more vacation scheduled in November, to see my mother and sisters for Thanksgiving, and I’m not going to let work interfere, not this time. Come November 19th I’m on the plane to Tulsa.

Trust me…

While I’ll be in Paris for almost two weeks, most it the time I will be busy with work, but I should be able to string together a few days that I can get out of Paris and see some of the country. I’m really looking forward to this trip. It’s been over twenty years since I’ve been to Paris so I’m sure there will be a lot of new sights to see, as well as some of my favorites. If anyone has any suggestions for “must see places”, please let me know.

In large cities throughout the world Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer, and our straight allies join us in celebrating everything that is GAY. This weekend in Baltimore the GLBT community hit the streets ready to party and show off their pride in full exuberance. I didn’t get to go this year, but I’m sure that my brothers and sisters did us proud and strutted their stuff as only a Baltimorean can. I hope that you were able to get out and celebrate with your community. It’s important.

It sure feels like it’s late in the year to be doing this, but too many things kept me from working on it sooner. I wasn’t as aggressive or as ambitious as I’ve been in past years with my plantings, but I think it will look good non the less. I planted a lot more perennials this year, keeping only the front (south-facing) bed for annuals. I love all the colors that you can get with annuals, but they do require a lot of work, every year. As soon as the garden grows some I’ll take a few pictures and post them, but for now I’m goring to crawl into the bathtub and soak my poor aching body; which I will not be posting a picture of.

Well it’s been almost a month that I’ve had my iPad 3G and, as much as it bothers me to say it, I’ve fallen in love with it. Now those of you who know me might be chuckling and saying, “Nu? You’re an Apple Fanboy…we should expect different?” While I will admit that I do like Apple, and that I own several of their products, I didn’t expect that I would like the iPad as much as I do. My poor MacBook just sits on my desk collecting dust, wondering what happened to me.
My favorite app on the iPad is the iBook reader and I’ve spent a lot of time looking for good ebooks to load up my iPad with. One place that I like a lot is All Romance, they have a very large GLBT section that I’ve bought a lot of wonderful ebooks from. I’ve developed an obsession for gay vampire and gay werewolf stories. If you’re looking for a good ebook to read let me know, I can recommend a couple.
The only complaint that I have with the iPad is it’s low visibility level in harsh sunlight. But I tell myself that it isn’t that big of a problem because I don’t read a lot in the sunlight, out of respect for the vampires of course.

As much as I long for a different life I’m not willing to give up what I’ve got now. Not that it’s that great, but I’ve become comfortable (lazy) with it and I’m not ready to loose it, not yet at least. Well, here’s to failing. May it soon become a distant acquaintance.

Today is the fourth year blogoversary for The Lee Word Side. I started the blog with the intention of it being a journal, and a place where I could express my feelings and thoughts through my writings. I got a good start, during the first two years I accomplished a lot of those goals. I wrote a few stories, a few poems, and a few posts on politics and current events. But during the third year something happened and I lost interest in posting. I tried to force myself to post, but those few post reflect the forced effort and should not have been posted. This, the fourth year I just let thing happen as they may. If I felt like posting, I did, if I didn’t, I didn’t. That approach’s success is reflected in the low number of post made in 2009.

So, what does the future hold for The Lee Word Side? Will it continue to limp along, barely providing any content? Will it recoup it’s former vitality? Well, only time will tell.
To all of the people who have been following me throughout this experience I say “Thank You.” Thank you for checking in and thank you for posting comments and sending emails. I truly appreciate them all. Please continue. So, here’s to the fifth year, may it bring entertainment, excitement, and satisfaction.

Time is running out on 2009. It will soon be over, as will this decade. This post will be the last one of the year. And what it year it has been. One I won’t forget anytime soon. In 2009 the first Black American became President and then he proceeded to renege on most of his campaign promises. He was elected to end the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but instead he sent more troops to Afghanistan. He promised to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” but he has done nothing but continue the hate and discrimination against our GLBT brothers and sisters. He promised to make changes, monumental change, but where are these changes? All we see is the continued policies of the previous administration. Policies that dismantled checks and balances in our government. Policies that weakened our social, educational, and medical safeguards. Policies that put our country in a finical cesspool that will take years to recover from, if we can. Needless to say, 2009 is the year that I lost all faith in the Democratic Party and our elected officials. It’s like the old adage says, “Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason.”
I’m hopeful that 2010 will bring us all good things. Let’s see how long that hope lasts.

Fortune Magazine has named Steve Jobs of Apple the CEO of the Decade. It’s quite an interesting article and you can read it here. In part they say, “How’s this for a gripping corporate story line: Youthful founder gets booted from his company in the 1980s, returns in the 1990s, and in the following decade survives two brushes with death, one securities-law scandal, an also-ran product lineup, and his own often unpleasant demeanor to become the dominant personality in four distinct industries, a billionaire many times over, and CEO of the most valuable company in Silicon Valley.”
Just on that quote alone he deserves the honor, and the respect, but to a lot of us Apple fanboys he’ll still just be Steve. Enough said.

I’ve always like dark colored themes but finding one that didn’t require too much tweaking has been a challenge. One of the nice advantages of having a WordPress blog is that there are hundreds of available themes that can be used to change the look your blog. The trick is to find a theme that satisfies most of your requirement, then make the necessary changes that will make it your own.
I hope you like the new fall look.

I’m aware that’s it’s been well over a month since I’ve posted anything. To say that I’m a bit ambivalent about the blog isn’t too far off the mark. I can’t say that I’ve been too busy to post, nor can I say that I’ve nothing to post about, I guess it just comes down to motivation and desire. While a lot of the reasons that I started The Lee Word Side are still valid, I’m unsure if I have the fortitude to carry it on any further. I do know that I can’t let the blog just drift off into oblivion, posting only enough to keep it on life support. I’ve either got to pull the plug, or get it back on it’s feet and back in the race.
